Everybody’s favorite TV Paralegal Rachel Zane, charmingly played by Meghan Markle, finished her acting career on “Suits” seventh season and went on to pursue her destiny as our favorite legit princess.
Good news for the princess-world, unfortunate news for the paralegal-world.
The entire world had nothing but love for the couple and royal wedding. However, Meghan Markle is still missed onscreen, and the paralegal profession is left wondering if we will ever have another actress quite like the lovely Ms. Markle.
Meghan Put Us On the Map
Meghan Markle not only shined in her role as Rachel Zane, she put the paralegal field into the limelight as well. Rachel Zane’s character has brought to the big screen a fair and accurate representation of the vital role paralegals truly play in the legal field. That is something that hasn’t been showcased frequently in Hollywood.
Not only has Rachel Zane’s character been one of the few portrayals of the paralegal profession on television, but it has also been one of the most realistic portrayals of our profession. Rachel is depicted actually doing paralegal work.
I cannot be the only paralegal who watched the Lincoln Lawyer and wondered if his driver was drafting pleadings and keeping the calendar updated for Matthew McConaughey’s in between drives. lol I mean come on, how realistic is a successful attorney plot without a paralegal? Working in the legal field can sometimes ruin a movie for you, even if Matthew McConaughy is in it.
Hollywood Attorneys Are Really Paralegals

- Interviewing Witnesses and
- Grueling over files full of documents and exhibits.
Those of us living in the reality of the legal field know good and well that those are common paralegal duties. It is widely known on “Suits” that Rachel’s experience and expertise supersede that of an inexperienced new associate. This type of portrayal is the reality of the dynamics of the legal field.
A field that is extremely unique when it comes to the experience and understanding a seasoned paralegal possesses. Reflecting on this type of misrepresentation when it comes to paralegals on the big screen reminds us how young the paralegal field is.
