Separation of Power

Law Day is fast-approaching. This year’s theme is Separation of Powers: Framework of Freedom. In light of this important legal day, this week’s blog will discuss the Law Day 2018 theme and what it means to us.

Most of us agree upon the importance of the separation of powers that those who created our nation’s first doctrines had the foresight to consider. However, many of us do not fully realize its importance in current times.

Now, arguably more than ever, this nation’s foundation of checks and balances is vital to the livelihood of our people and our success as a nation.

Separation of Powers Is American

There are so many people in this world who have to live under the fear of persecution, retaliation and abuse of power simply for standing tall in their convictions. You may be hard-pressed to find something more unAmerican, in my opinion. As a young girl growing up in the 80’s under the fear of the Cold War, I remember always being grateful to be born in this country

The United States of America is the home of the free and the brave. The citizens of our country have rights that were created by a nation where fairness, justice and equality for all still reign true. Even as an ignorant, naïve young girl in the ’80’s, I knew that much to be true and I believe it to this day.
